Ésta es la historia del equipo de fútbol de una isla muy pequeña del sur de Tailandia, Koh Panyee. Unos niños, a los que les encantaba ver el fútbol por la tele, no podían jugar por no haber sitio en su isla ni entre las casas flotantes en las que vivían. La solución: hacer un campo de futbol sobre el mar. Una vez hecho, con trozos de madera sobrantes que habían ido encontrando por el pueblo, comenzaron a jugar, pero la superficie no era perfecta: se les iban los balones al agua, o eran ellos mismos los que caían en ella; los clavos que sobresalían y les hacían heridas en sus pies descalzos: el suelo siempre mojado… Un día recibieron la invitación a participar en un campeonato de fútbol y, aunque no se veían con posibilidades, se apuntaron. Una vez allí, sobre el terreno de juego, vieron que eran mucho más hábiles de lo que creían, y llegaron hasta la final, quedando segundos. Poco a poco, y con empeño, se convirtieron en uno de los mejores equipos de fútbol del Sur de Tailandia.

This is the story of the football team of a very little island in the south of Thailand, Koh Panyee. Some children loved to watch football in the TV, but had nowhere to play or practice because they lived in a floating village in the middle of the sea. They found a solution: making a football field over the sea. They made it with wood pieces they had found in the village and, once finished, they started to play, but the surface wasn’t good enough: the balls fell continuously to the water, or themselves; the colves out of the wood hurted their feet (they used to run barefoot); the wooden floor was always wet… One day they received the invitation to take part in a football championship, and didn’t feel themselves good enough to win, but decided to participate to learn from the experience. Once there, they discovered they played better than many of the teams and finally got to the final match, being finally the second ones. Step by step and with effort, they became one of the best football teams in the south of Thailand.
