Estaba viendo el blog de Lucía Be y he encontrado este precioso vídeo que, teniendo la esencia de los típicos e-mails de consejos tipo “si no envías esto a 20 personas serás una infeliz para toda tu vida”, no tiene nada que ver porque es alegre, ilusionante y divertido, tiene unas ilustraciones sencillas y muy descriptivas de lo que realmente sentimos. Puede que estemos de pie, sonriendo ante alguien que nos acaban de presentar, pero en nuestro corazón nos sentimos balanceándonos como unos equilibristas en un trapecio, felices, dejándonos llevar… A veces un dibujo surrealista es mucho más realista que una fotografía. La foto muestra lo que hay fuera. El dibujo lo que hay dentro. El libro del vídeo es Be Happy (Sé Feliz), escrito y dibujado por Monica Seehan, editorial Robin Book.

I was looking at Lucia Be‘s blog and I’ve found this precious video that, having the essence of typical advicing e-mails like “if you don’t send it forward up to 20 people, you’ll be an unhappy person for the rest of your life”, it has no relation with it because its happy, exciting and funny, it has a simple and very descriptive illustrations about what we really feel. Maybe we are standed up, smiling to someone who has just introduced us some friend, but inside our heart we really feel like acrobats in a trapece, happy, being influenced by the air and the emotion.. Sometimes a surrealistic drawing is more realistic than a photograph. The photo shows what’s outside. The drawing shows what’s inside. The book of the video is Be Happy, A Little Book to Help You Live a Happy Life, drawn and written by Monica Seehan.

Bailey doesn’t Bark

Bailey doesn’t bark (Bailey no grita/ladra) es una tienda online que vende accesorios para el hogar, como tazas, con un diseño sencillo pero ingenioso. No sé si le serviría la sopa a un invitado con la vajilla de las hormigas, pero reconozco que me gusta y me divierte. Además de vajillas, también tienen trapos de cocina, libretas y tarjetas con los mismos diseños que adornan las vajillas. El tarjetón con el corazón-pizarra es una idea genial.

Bailey doesn’t bark is an online home accessories shop, like teacups, with a simple but ingenious design. I don’t know if I would serve the soup to a guest with the ants dinner service, but I recognise that I like and find fun on it. They also have towels, notebooks, and cards with the same design the dinner service has. The blackboard heart cart is a brilliant idea.

Green Grass – Cibelle

Este videoclip animado está hecho con la técnica de la rotoscopia, calco a partir de una fotografía/vídeo con movimiento real. Es muy bonito el juego de texturas planas junto a las líneas que dan profundidad, el estampado del vestido de ella que recuerda a las paredes empapeladas, el fondo marrón de papel continuo viejo y sucio, los labios que captan toda la atención y el pelo rebelde hecho con trazos de lápiz, igual que las ramas de los árboles.

This animated videoclip is made with rotoscope, that is copying from a picture/video with real movement. It has a very beautiful texture combination with the lines, that create depth of field: the pattern of her dress, similar to wallpapers; the old dirty brown paper; her lips that attracts our attention.. and that rebel hair drawn with pencil strokes, like the branches of the trees.

Carles Porta & Puck Cinema Caravana

Carles Porta es un gran diseñador, ilustrador, animador… y además es el responsable de la existencia del cine más pequeño del mundo, Puck Cinema Caravana, donde caben cómodamente 7 espectadores. Su objetivo: dar a conocer el cine de animación independiente, con 15 cortos para público infantil y también adulto. La imagen del Puck es como un caramelo gigante para la vista, con un estilo colorido, sencillo y muy atractivo. La caravana viaja por todo el mundo, y el año pasado tuve la suerte de verla en el campus de la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia con motivo de la presentación del Máster en Animación. Este año la temática que une a todos los cortos de animación del puck será la naturaleza, el ecosistema, la imaginación y las emociones humanas, todo con un fondo común sobre la protección del entorno que nos rodea y a nosotros mismos como parte de él.

Carles Porta is a great designer, illustrator, animator… and he is also the responsible of the existence of the smallest cinema in the world, Puck Cinema Caravana, where there’s only place for 7 people. Its objective: make the people know the independent animation cinema, with 15 short films for children and also adults. Puck’s graphic image is like a giant sweet for the eyes, with a colourful, simple and very attractive style. The caravan travels around the entire world and the last year I had the big luck of watching it in the campus of the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, in the same date the Master in Animation was being presented. This year the theme that will join all Puck’s short films will be the nature, the ecosystem, the imagination and human emotions, everything with a nexus related to the evironment protection and we, the people, as part of it.

Saponia

Hoy, gracias a Estela Pastor, he descubierto a Saponia, que es Santi Agustí, un freelance de aquí de Valencia, que al parecer es un crack con las nuevas tecnologías aplicadas al motion graphics, ilustración, animación, fx.. Me he hecho un lío intentando elegir una obra que le caracterice, y al final he escogido la animación e ilustración para el videojuego kimochi. La ilustración de abajo la he escogido por lo interesante que me ha parecido el proceso de producción, pues es un 3D con postproducción añadida, un trabajazo hecho con la colaboración de dos amigos. También ha trabajado con Keytoon, un estudio de animación 3D muy bueno, también de Valencia.

Creo que me quedo corta para describir el talento de su Saponia, así que os recomiendo que visitéis su web y hagáis click en todo lo que os parezca.

I’ve discovered Saponia today, by Estela Pastor. The mind behind Saponia is Santi Agustí, a freelance designer-illustrator-motion grapher-fx maker.. based in Valencia. He seems to be an authentic crack with new technologies applied to animation, motion graphics, illustration.. I’ve got into a mess trying to select a work that describes him the best way possible, and I’ve finally chosen the Kimochi animation and design video. I’ve also chosen the image above this words for its interesting production proccess: this is a 3D render with added postproduction, made with the collaboration of two friends. A lot of work with a very good result. Saponia has also worked with keytoon, a great 3D animation studio also based in Valencia.

I think my words don’t describe all what he is and his big talent, so I recommend you to visit his web and click on everything you want.

Arrugas

Arrugas es un cómic, y también, dentro de poco, una película de animación. Es una historia sobre el alzheimer, narrada y dibujada por Paco Roca, con un realismo y sensibilidad fascinantes que hicieron que ganara el Premio Nacional de Cómic en 2008. El libro tiene todos los premios que se puedan imaginar para un cómic, y en España lleva ya unos 30.000 ejemplares vendidos (uno de ellos comprado por mi). Altamente recomendable, es una obra de la que nunca te arrepentirás de haber comprado, ni tampoco de leerla 1001 veces.

Arrugas (wrinkles) is a comic, and, coming soon, an animation film. This is a story about alzheimer, told and drawn by Paco Roca, with an awesome realism and sensibility, that made it win the 2008 Spanish National Comic Award. This book has all the prices you can imagine for a comic, and only in Spain it has 30.000 units sold (one of them bought by me). I recommend it a lot, this is an art work that you’ll never regret for buying, neither reading it 1001 times.

Pietari Posti

Hace un año me compré el libro de ilustración Naïve, Modernish and Folklore un Contemporary Graphic Design, que encontré por casualidad en una tienda del Barrio del Carmen, Valencia. La portada tenía una ilustración espectacular de Pietari Posti, que me atraía como el canto de las sirenas a Ulises en La Odisea de Homero. Una vez el libro en su nuevo hogar, quise saber más de este ilustrador y me encontré con su web. Tienen en común sus ilustraciones un colorido y sencillez que han hecho que su trabajo sea valorado en todo el mundo.

One year ago I bought the illustration book Naïve, Modernish and Folklore un Contemporary Graphic Design, that I found casually in a shop in the Barrio del Carmen, Valencia. The cover had a spectacular illustration made by Pietari Posti, that was attracting me like the mermaids songs to Ulises in the Homero’s Odyssey. Once the book at its new home, I wanted to know more about this illustrator, and I found his website. All his illustrations have a colour and simplicity that have got to stand Pietari Posti out into the world’s best illustrators.

Laszlito Kovaks

Encontré a Laszlito Kovaks hace años, por flickr, y gracias a él encontré a swissmiss, que acababa de publicar en su blog algunos de sus dibujos. Desde entonces no pierdo de vista a ninguno de los dos. Sus ilustraciones tienen una sencillez y una belleza admirables, y el colorido me recuerda a los carteles de los años 50, con sus tintas planas y colores selectos. Aquí podéis ver al pájaro en movimiento.

I met Laszlito Kovaks some years ago, in flickr, and through him I met swissmiss, who had just published some of his drawings in her blog. Since then, I don’t let them out of my sight. His illustrations have an amazing simplicity and beauty, and the colour makes me remember the old 50′s posters, with his spot colour and selected colours. Here you can see the bird moving.
