Querer es Poder | Where there’s a Will, there’s a Way

Ésta es la historia del equipo de fútbol de una isla muy pequeña del sur de Tailandia, Koh Panyee. Unos niños, a los que les encantaba ver el fútbol por la tele, no podían jugar por no haber sitio en su isla ni entre las casas flotantes en las que vivían. La solución: hacer un campo de futbol sobre el mar. Una vez hecho, con trozos de madera sobrantes que habían ido encontrando por el pueblo, comenzaron a jugar, pero la superficie no era perfecta: se les iban los balones al agua, o eran ellos mismos los que caían en ella; los clavos que sobresalían y les hacían heridas en sus pies descalzos: el suelo siempre mojado… Un día recibieron la invitación a participar en un campeonato de fútbol y, aunque no se veían con posibilidades, se apuntaron. Una vez allí, sobre el terreno de juego, vieron que eran mucho más hábiles de lo que creían, y llegaron hasta la final, quedando segundos. Poco a poco, y con empeño, se convirtieron en uno de los mejores equipos de fútbol del Sur de Tailandia.

This is the story of the football team of a very little island in the south of Thailand, Koh Panyee. Some children loved to watch football in the TV, but had nowhere to play or practice because they lived in a floating village in the middle of the sea. They found a solution: making a football field over the sea. They made it with wood pieces they had found in the village and, once finished, they started to play, but the surface wasn’t good enough: the balls fell continuously to the water, or themselves; the colves out of the wood hurted their feet (they used to run barefoot); the wooden floor was always wet… One day they received the invitation to take part in a football championship, and didn’t feel themselves good enough to win, but decided to participate to learn from the experience. Once there, they discovered they played better than many of the teams and finally got to the final match, being finally the second ones. Step by step and with effort, they became one of the best football teams in the south of Thailand.

TMB Bank, as part of his new program Make THE Difference has produced this film to inspire people to start thinking differently. With a hope that they will start to Make THE Difference to their own world, not with big projects but with positive changes. Fascinating.

Póster Sucio | Dirt-Poster

El futuro nos pertenece a los pocos que todavía queremos tener nuestras manos sucias.

Me ha impresionado este póster de Reiner Tiangco. Es un poster que necesita tu participación. La parte trasera está ensuciada con tinta negra. Por delante, en cambio, es todo blanco, pero tiene zonas con brillo que repelen la tinta, y zonas mate, las letras, que la absorben y revelan el mensaje.

The future belongs to the few of us still willing to get our hands dirty.

This Reiner Tiangco poster has impressed me a lot. It requires your participation. The back of the poster is dirty of black ink. The front side, however, is all white, but it has glossy zones that repels the ink, and matte zones that take it and reveal the message.

Aimee Mullins

Aimee Mullins es una atleta, modelo y actriz norteamericana. De pequeña tuvo una enfermedad llamada hemimelia fibular (las piernas crecen hacia dentro), que le llevó a perder las dos piernas con tan sólo 1 año de edad. Aún así, su empeño por salir adelante le ha llevado a destacar mundialmente en el deporte paralímpico, posar como modelo para diferentes marcas y actuar en varias películas, además de trabajar para el pentágono como oradora motivacional. Su testimonio y lucha por la vida es un ejemplo para todo el mundo. Nota: en la base del vídeo hay un menú para seleccionar subtítulos en español y otros idiomas.

Aimee Mullins is a north american athlete, fashion model and actress. She was born with fibular hemimelia and, as a result, had both of her legs amputated below the knee when she was a year old. Even that, her efforts to overcome has taken her to excel in paralimpics sports, work as fashion model and acting in some films, plus working for the Pentagon as motivational speaker. Her testimonial and struggle for the life is an example to everybody.

White Box

White Box es una animación muy japonesa, y no sólo por el chico que la protagoniza, evidentemente japonés.. sino que, ya desde el primer segundo de película, huele a minimalismo y perfección. Mesa, ropa, caja.. todo blanco. Y lápices de colores ordenados de una forma peculiar: en paralelo o formando un abanico, combinando sólo dos colores en cada grupo. Y después algo muy, muy japonés: la papiroflexia. Surge del papel blanco un torrente de formas de colores que dan lugar a un mundo que sólo existe en nuestro interior: la imaginación.

White Box is a very japanese animation, and I say it not only for the protagonist, obviously japanese.. but from the first second in the film, everything smells of minimalism and perfection. Table, clothes, box.. all white. And colour pencils ordered in a very original way: in parallel or like a senorita fan, combining just two colors in each group. And after, something very, very japanese: the origami. It rises from the white paper an amount of shapes and colours that create a world only real inside us: the imagination.

El Cine que Sueñas | The Cinema you Dream About

Estás en una cafetería, con un amigo, y os ponéis a hablar de cine: la última película que habéis visto, o la que os gustaría ver el próximo día. Y siempre están los comentarios: es buena, pero se veía venir el final, estaban bien los efectos especiales, lo ha hecho bien el actor o actriz del momento… Imagina por un momento que puedes coger la servilleta, dibujar en ella lo que te gustaría ver realmente en la pantalla, y poder enseñar tu garabato a los directores de cine de todo el mundo. Eso es El Cine que Sueñas: un proyecto que nació de la mano de Someguy en San Francisco, California, y rápidamente se extendió por todo el mundo como una pandemia. En España, los difusores del proyecto han sido Belén Torregrosa y el Centro de Estudios de la Ciudad de la Luz, Alicante, que han repartido libretas por todas partes para que, quien quisiera, dibujase, escribiese, abocetase.. lo que es el cine de sus sueños. Han contado también con la participación de artistas, conocidos o no, del mundo del cine, el diseño, la ilustración… Y ahora, este largo y variopinto viaje ha llegado a su fin, con estación de llegada en el Centro de Estudios de la Ciudad de la Luz, con una exposición colectiva en la que se podrán ver todas las libretas y lo que gente de todo el mundo ha hecho con ellas. La inauguración estará abierta al público del 22 de febrero al 18 de marzo

You are in a cafe, with a friend, and  you start to talk about cinema: tha last film you’ve just seen, or the film you’d like to watch the next day. And always you have the same comments in your mouth: the film was good but the final was so foreseeable, the special effects looked real, the star actor or actress has worked good… Imagine for a while that you can take the napkin and draw on it what you’d really want to see in the screen, and have the opportunity to show it to all the world’s cinema directors. That’s The Cinema you Dream About: a project that Someguy started in San Francisco, California, and fastly spread away along the world like a pandemia. In Spain, the ones who have diseminated the project have been Belén Torregrosa and the Centro de Estudios Ciudad de la Luz, Alicante, who have given out lots of blocks everywhere, to everybody who wanted to write, draw, sketch.. what is their dream’s cinema. They’ve also role in artist from cinema, design, illustration… And now, this long and original travel has finished, and it will be an exhibition in the Centro de Estudios Ciudad de la Luz, where this blocks will be shown. The inauguration will be next 22nd february and the show will be until the 18th march.

No es nada fácil elegir los colores para una ilustración, un folleto, un estampado, o incluso para la decoración de tu casa, sin que quede demasiado soso, o demasiado llamativo. Colour Lovers es una web dedicada exclusivamente a las paletas de colores. Puedes crear la tuya propia con las herramientas que te facilitan, o, si no estás inspirado/a, puedes ver las paletas que otros han hecho antes que tú.

El Viaje de María | Maria’s Journey

El Viaje de María, de Miguel Gallardo, es una animación que no necesita palabras, sólo ser vista. Es la historia de María, una chica con autismo. Como dice Miguel, el autor del cortometraje y padre de María, “no es una obra sobre el autismo, es sobre el cariño, sobre la relación entre un padre y una hija que, por encima de las dificultades de la comunicación, se transmiten su mensaje alto y claro, así tal cual me lo dijo María, una noche, en un resort de los que íbamos: tú y yo. Eso es amor”.

Maria’s Journey, by Miguel Gallardo, is a short film animation that doesn’t need words, just being seen. It’s Maria’s story, the story of an autistic girl. Miguel, the author of this short film and Maria’s father, says: “this is not a short about autism, this is a short about love, about the relationship between a father and a daughter that, over the communication dificulties, transmits a high and clear message, just like Maria said to me one day, a night, in a resort: you and me. That’s love”.

Miedo | Fear

La valentía es: tener miedo, luchar contra él y vencerlo. Raquel, adolescente con cáncer.

El 15 de febrero es el día internacional del niño con cáncer, y la Asociación Española de Padres de Niños con Cáncer, ASION, ha preparado un libro hecho con fotografías de adolescentes enfermos, titulado “A través de mi cámara. El adolescente con cáncer fotografía su mundo”. En la noticia que he leído, me ha encantado esta frase de Raquel

The 15th February is the International Childhood Cancer Day, and ASION, the Spanish Asociation of Childhood Cancer Parents, has prepared a book with pictures made by cancer teenagers, titled “Through my camera. The Cancer teenager take photograph of his world”. In the news I’ve read, I’ve liked so much this Raquel’s phrase
